Hand-made paper lamps

The elegant wall scone you see pictured here is a hand-made paper scone crafted by the people at Ambient Art Lamps.

Ambient Art creates paper table and floor lamps, scones and pendants.

The decorative paper on the outside of their lamps is protected with sturdier paper underneath to give it strength. They use wood for the bases and structures rather than metal or plastic. Only non-toxic materials are used to protect the wood. The paper used for their lamps is handmade paper from Thailand and other Indonesian countries. Each sheet is a unique work of art.

The bulbs used are primarily candelabra style, smaller than the usual household light bulb. These are the kind of lights typically used in night lights or chandelier style fixtures and they are available at between 7 to 40 watts.

The wall scone pictured here is about 16 inches tall. Price is $65 (or $59 with more than one order).

The lamps are perfect for soothing mood lighting. Check them out.

Tin Lanterns are Back in Style

Tin Lanterns

Tin lanterns are back in style. The Backwoods Tin Shop can't keep up with demand. There is a six week backlog for their orders.

They have been making hand made items from tin, copper and stainless steel since 1994.

They make their products with a few small forming machines that were typically used in the 18th century. Their products are reproductions of tin lanterns from the Early American Colonial Period.

"The individual pieces are formed and then hand soldered together making each finished piece unique. No two are exactly the same."

Check out the Backwoods Tin Shop for some very cool tin lanterns for your cottage or log cabin.
