Travel lamps and lights

Here's the popular "itty bitty" book light from Zelco. It's the best way to read a book and not keep your partner up at the same time. I'm off on a trip for the next month and maybe I'll take one of these tiny lamps along. I'll be posting again in late June.

Check out the "itty bitty" book light at Amazon.

This is the beautiful zodiac lamp hanging off the ceiling of the rotunda at the New York Botanical Garden. This gorgeous photograph was taken by 'van in nyc'.

If you happen to be in New York before June 12th, check out their spring flower show. The NYBG is one of the world's largest gardens, a full 250-acre site in New York City's Bronx borough. It contains 48 different kinds of gardens. NYBG has been around since 1891 and is also an international center for plant research.

Spectacular Chandeliers

Here are two very spectacular stained glass chandeliers.

This is the Northern Lights Chandelier by James Nowak. His work is very much influenced by the beauty of the maritime Pacific Northwest. The Northern Lights are a theme in a few of his works. See more examples of his lighting designs at The Art Lighting Gallery.

This is the Greek Key Hanging Light. It is a fused silver glass hanging light with flame cut steel hardware. It's 46 inches in diameter and 8 inches deep. This piece of beautiful art was created by George C. Scott. Scott works in multiple disciplines of glass art. See more of his lighting creations at The Art Lighting Gallery.

Lighting for the Children's Room

Track lighting for the nursery or kid's room is a very unique idea. This beautiful Mono Cloud (mono rail) track lighting set was inspired by someone at Tech Lighting. I think most kids would really treasure this sort of lighting fantasy.

These are the Candela rechargeable lamps.

Children love candles and most kids would probably be thrilled to have these candle-like lights in their bedrooms. The Candela lamps are not just for kids though, they are very handy at evening barbecues and out on the patio at dusk. They don't go out when the wind blows and the beautiful terra color brightens up the atmosphere. These lamps won the Metropolitan Home Design 100 award. This is the basic "trains, planes and trucks" lamp that would appeal to a lot of boys and many girls. The lamp features a solid wood firetruck with a removable ladder. See more details on this cute kid's lamp at Amazon.

This is one more children's pendant lighting idea. It is the 'prop plane' ceiling pendant made of satin nickel and pewter. Check out more details on this memorable children's pendant light at Amazon.

Most children remember few material possessions from their first few years. But an eye-catching and unique lamp or other light fixture like some of the examples shown above would probably trigger some of their earlier magical memories of childhood - especially if it was pulled out of the attic some twenty years later ;-).
